ANNA TOMCZAK
PHOTOGRAPHY
Exhibition Curator, Barbara Hitchcock, Director of Cultural Affairs at the Polaroid Corporation, describes Tomczak’s work. “Her photographs are beautiful, yet they are heavily layered with ideas, histories, remembrances an emotion. The artist delves into hidden places in her psyche to resurrect and interpret what is captured there, using it to reenergize souvenirs of past lives.”
Sanctuary has many interpretations: holy place, safe haven, site of renewal, retreat. Anna Tomczak’s studio is her ‘safe haven’ a creative place for the artist and a space into which she invites others. Anna as an artist and educator is often a muse, sparking creative connections that extend beyond her studio to artists of all disciplines, students, arts organizations, patrons and enthusiasts. These associations are vital for nurturing her work, as well.
