Photo Mixed Media & Encaustic Workshop
June 26 - 28, 2009

This workshop is designed as a continuation of previous bookmaking and alternative process workshops at my studio. New and former students are welcome. This workshop is for all levels. We will concentrate on the various methods of integrating photographs into the surface of various art papers, cloth, wood support, canvas, glass, plexi-glass and metals. Non-silver processes will be emphasized including blue print, Van Dyke brown print, photocopy transfer, Polaroid emulsion lifts, as well as hand painting and acrylic transfers.

Text methods will be demonstrated - rubbings, rubber stamp, embossing, collage. old-fashioned typewriter as well as computer generated text. Examples will be shown. Surface treatments will be introduced such as coating with wax and hand painting with encaustic (pigment in hot wax). The workshop will emphasize the photographic image, but is not limited to this and will include other modes of expression - drawing, poetry, collage and illustrations.

You will learn skills that you can continue using in your home or studio.

VENICE, ITALY
Photography & Polaroid Transfers Workshop
October 18-25, 2009

This workshop offers a special opportunity to experience and to photograph mysterious Venice, its people and its culture. For the week participants will be staying at the convent Istituto Canossiano. It is in the Dorsoduro - across the Accademia Bridge from the San Marco sector - on a quiet back canal of a typical Venetian neighborhood. Rooms are simply furnished, each with a full bathroom. During the week, we will be taking several trips and working together, but there will also be ample opportunity to wander off on your own to shoot and explore.

There will also be studio time to make polaroid transfer and emulsion lifts.
